For approximately 15 million people working online in India’s new freelance job sector, this is not just a dream. It is a reality that is steadily increasing in number.
The number of freelancers in India is second only to the United States and India’s freelance economy is forecasted to top $20 billion by the year 2025. That is a HUGE boost to the national economy.
This is great news for those who want flexibility in their schedule and freedom from the daily 9-5 grind of traditional jobs.
Perhaps you could consider one of the many online part time jobs in order to work in the area of your passion.
Or maybe you are looking for a different opportunity as you are seeing your current job becoming obsolete or reduced due to the relentless advancement of technology and automation.
Not just for full-time workers
Working online is not just for full-time workers.
The pursuit of online part time jobs is definitely an option that everyone with access to the internet can explore.
If you are looking for a creative outlet, making some extra money each month on top of your regular job, or are not yet ready to take the big leap from a traditional full-time job to becoming a full-time freelancer, one of the attractions of the new economy is that it is perfect for online part time jobs.
Almost as limitless as your imagination
The kind of work that can be done online is almost as limitless as your imagination.
The job possibilities cross almost all market-sectors.
From IT, and web design, to customer support, transcription, and tutoring, the sky is limit as to the type of work you can do.
The range of what you can earn covers a wide range.
For the purpose of this article, our focus will be online part time jobs that pay ₹80,000 or more per month.
Where can online part time jobs be found?
So, where does a person look to find what is available for online part time jobs?
For those who are looking for the flexibility that freelance work can provide, there are a number of websites that cater to budding as well as established freelancers.
Freelance websites provide a platform to connect sellers (freelancers looking for work) and buyers (individuals, companies and organizations looking to hire freelancers).
Some of the sites are free, which is great for those who looking to “test the waters” of working an online part time job.
Other sites are subscription-based, which are an option for those who are ready to take the plunge into the deep end of the pool.
The number of sites on which a freelancer can list their services is as varied as the number of people working in the freelance marketplace.
Some choose to use just one site. Others list their services on several. I am one of those who is on several of the freelance sites believing that “casting a larger net brings in more fish”.
Let’s take a look at just two of the freelance website options that are available for those who are wanting to jump into the world of online part time jobs.
Fiverr
Fiverr claims to be the largest forum in the world for working online and has been ranked as the number one website for freelancers.
From what I have seen from being on Fiverr myself, along with over 5.5 million other users, these statistics appear to be true.
The type of work that can be done through Fiverr is not quite as numerous as the stars in the sky but it sure seems that way.
They have an extensive list of services available.
It is free to set up an account on Fiverr. You can use your account to sell your services or buy the services of other freelancers.
To get started on Fiverr, you create what is called a “gig”, which lists the services you have to offer and what you are charging for your services.
Buyers do a search of the gigs to find the right person at the right price for the job they need to get done.
Sellers can also find buyers by performing a search of buyer requests and then put in a proposal for the project.
The buyer will award the project to the person who best fits their needs at the price the buyer is willing to pay.
When a proposal has been accepted, the buyer and seller connect on Fiverr’s messaging platform.
Fiverr has a strict code of conduct in their terms of service that is designed to protect both buyers and sellers from shady business practices.
When Fiverr started out in 2010, all of the services offered on gigs were bought and sold at $5 per transaction.
Since then, the amount you can charge per gig is completely dependent on you.
There are great tutorials on YouTube as to how to set up your gig for maximum income.
According to a report from CNBC, depending on the work you do, the income potential could be as high as ₹22,728 – ₹1,332,554 per gig.
Freelancer.com
Freelancer.com is another great place for people to get started with online part time jobs.
It is a personal favourite of mine and, in my opinion, is the easiest to use.
Freelancer.com, like Fiverr is free to set up an account.
One of the advantages of Freelancer.com is that you do not need to set up gigs for the services you provide.
Simply fill out your profile using their easy-to-follow template and you are good to go.
It is important to fill out your profile as completely as possible.
If you have samples of the work you do, they provide a “gallery” for you to showcase that work on your profile.
Using Freelancer.com is easy. Simply do a search of projects using the service you offer as the keyword. This will pull up a list of people who are looking for that service.
The buyer posts a description of the work they need completed and the price range they are willing to pay.
Then you as the seller submit a proposal for the services you offer and the amount for which you are willing to do the work.
You don’t always have to be the low bidder to win a project.
Buyers look for the quality of work as well as price.
If you do outstanding work, buyers will often award the project to the higher bid to get the best bang for their buck.
If the buyer likes your skillset and your bid for the cost of services, the buyer contacts you on Freelancer’s secure messaging platform letting you know that you have been awarded the work.
You and the buyer can communicate on the messaging platform throughout the duration of the project.
As with Fiverr, Freelancer.com has a strict set of terms and conditions.
They do monitor the conversations taking place on their messaging platform and will terminate any conversation that falls outside of their terms of service.
This provides great protection for buyers and sellers.
As far as earnings, the potential of what you can make depends on how hard you work the site.
In the words of Thomas Edison, “Everything comes to he who hustles…”
According to freedomwithwriting.com, a writer can make up to ₹121,992 or more per month on Freelancer.com.

In order to be truly competitive in the business world, companies need to have a strong social media presence.
LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all social media platforms that companies use to get their message out to a diverse market place.
